Lipo 360: Procedure, Candidates, Results, Recovery and Cost
Lipo 360 is liposuction of the whole waist in one operation, treating the abdomen, flanks and lower back together for an even shape from every angle. It suits people near a stable weight with firm, elastic skin. Expect compression garments for a few weeks, swelling for months and final results after three to six months.
| At a glance | Typical guide |
|---|---|
| Areas | Abdomen, flanks, lower back |
| Anaesthesia | Usually general |
| Time off work | A few days to about 2 weeks |
| Exercise | Gentle at 3 to 4 weeks; full by about 6 weeks |
| Final result | About 3 to 6 months |
| US surgeon fee, single-area liposuction | $4,300 to $7,500 (2024 range) |
The fee range is from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS, US) for liposuction generally; a 360 treatment covers several areas and usually costs more.
What is Lipo 360?
This approach treats the torso as one unit, so the front, sides and back are shaped together rather than one area at a time.
Some clinics write it as “lipo 3 60” or 360 liposuction. A board-certified plastic surgeon describes it as abdominal liposuction combined with other torso areas, with the exact zones agreed during planning. Most surgeons use tumescent liposuction, where fluid with a numbing medicine and a blood-vessel-narrowing medicine is injected before fat is removed through thin tubes. Ultrasound-assisted (VASER), laser-assisted and power-assisted versions also exist, according to Mayo Clinic, but none removes loose skin.
Liposuction was the most common cosmetic operation in the US in 2024, with about 349,728 procedures, according to ASPS.
Candidates
The right candidate is healthy, close to a stable weight and has pinchable fat with good skin elasticity around the waist.
- Stable weight: Mayo Clinic says liposuction suits people with stubborn fat who are otherwise at a stable weight, and isn’t a weight-loss method.
- Firm skin: thin, inelastic skin may look loose afterwards. Loose skin or separated muscles point to a tummy tuck instead.
- Health: non-smokers without uncontrolled diabetes, heart disease or blood-flow problems.
- Higher BMI: possible in selected cases; see lipo 360 for plus size.
In my practice, I mark the waist with the patient standing, because fat on the back and flanks shifts when lying down and is easy to under-treat.
Before and after
Results show gradually as swelling fades: early change by about six weeks and a settled waist by three to six months.
Liposuction results become visible in weeks three to five, with the full scope at about six weeks and beyond, according to an ASPS blog. Cleveland Clinic says swelling can take three to six months to resolve fully. If you gain weight later, fat may collect in untreated areas, according to Mayo Clinic. Month-by-month photos are in our lipo 360 before and after guide, and stomach, arm, thigh and chin results are in liposuction before and after by area.
Recovery
Expect compression garments for a few weeks, desk work after a few days to two weeks and gentle exercise at three to four weeks.
The NHS says most people stay overnight after liposuction, wear a compression garment constantly for several weeks and can start gentle exercise at three to four weeks. Bruising and swelling can last up to six months, and numbness six to eight weeks. Because 360 treatment covers a larger area, swelling is usually more noticeable. Our lipo 360 recovery week by week covers garment stages and massage.
Lipo 360 cost
Total price depends on how many zones are treated, fat volume, anaesthesia, facility and city, so ask for an itemised quote.
| Source | Figure | What it covers |
|---|---|---|
| ASPS 2024 | $4,300 to $7,500 | Surgeon fee, liposuction |
| ASPS 2023 | Average $4,711 | Surgeon fee, liposuction |
| NHS (private, UK) | About £3,000 to £8,500 | Typical total price |
| One New York surgeon | From $20,000 | Lipo 360 package |
The lipo 360 before and after cost also includes garments, follow-up visits and any massage sessions. Insurance doesn’t usually cover cosmetic liposuction. More pricing advice is in our body contouring cost guide.
Lipo 360 with breast surgery
Combining lipo 360 with breast augmentation, a breast lift or a breast reduction means one anaesthetic and one recovery, but a longer operation.
Mayo Clinic says the risk of complications rises with larger treatment areas or several procedures in one operation. An ASPS blog on combined body surgery notes surgical time is usually kept to about five hours, with supervised recovery for at least 24 hours, and some plans are split into two stages three to six months apart. The upper-body garment and the abdominal compression garment need to fit together, so plan them before surgery.
- With breast augmentation (lipo 360 and breast augmentation): adds upper volume to balance a slimmer waist; see our breast augmentation overview.
- With a breast lift (lipo 360 and breast lift): raises sagging breasts without changing size much; see the breast lift overview.
- With a breast reduction (lipo 360 and breast reduction): reduces heavy breasts, sometimes using liposuction within the breast too; see the breast reduction overview.
Frequently Asked Questions
FAQ
Answers on combining breast surgery, pain, permanence, how much fat can be removed and the difference from a tummy tuck.
Can I have lipo 360 and breast augmentation together?
Often, yes, if you’re healthy and the total operating time stays reasonable. Combining surgery means one recovery, but Mayo Clinic notes risks rise with several procedures in one operation. Some surgeons stage them three to six months apart instead.
Can lipo 360 be combined with a breast lift or reduction?
Yes, these are common pairings in post-pregnancy body surgery. Combined operations are usually kept to about five hours, with at least 24 hours of supervised recovery, says an ASPS blog. Your surgeon decides whether one or two stages is safer.
Is lipo 360 permanent?
Removed fat cells don’t come back, but remaining fat can grow with weight gain. Weight gain may also add fat to untreated areas, per Mayo Clinic. A stable weight keeps the waist shape longest.
How much fat can be removed with lipo 360?
It depends on your size and health. ASPS describes more than about five litres as large-volume liposuction needing special precautions, and a 2015 study found complications were higher above that level. Most surgeons remove less in one session.
Is lipo 360 the same as a tummy tuck?
No. The 360 procedure removes fat around the waist through small incisions. A tummy tuck removes loose skin and can repair separated muscles, leaving a longer low scar. Some people need both, which our tummy tuck guide explains.
