Stomach lipo before and after results usually show a flatter lower abdomen and smoother waist once swelling settles, often by about three to six months. Arms, thighs and the chin respond in the same way when skin is firm. Liposuction removes fat, not loose skin, so a sagging abdomen, arm or thigh may need a lift instead.
| Area | Typical change | When a lift may suit better |
|---|---|---|
| Stomach | Flatter lower belly, defined waist | Hanging skin, stretch marks, separated muscles |
| Arms | Slimmer back of the upper arm | Skin that hangs when the arm is raised |
| Thighs | Smoother outer or inner thigh | Loose, crepey inner-thigh skin |
| Chin | Sharper jaw and neck angle | Loose neck skin or neck bands |
This guide is part of our lipo 360 overview, which covers whole-waist treatment.
Stomach
Lipo before and after stomach photos show the most change when fat is pinchable and the skin and muscles are firm.
The abdomen comes first on Mayo Clinic’s list of liposuction areas, and the clinic says people with good skin tone and elasticity usually get smooth skin afterwards, while thin, inelastic skin may look loose. The NHS says liposuction doesn’t remove stretch marks. If the belly hangs or the muscles have separated after pregnancy, a tummy tuck may suit better. Most patients see a clear change by about six weeks, according to an American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS, US) blog.
In my practice, I ask patients to sit and lean forward during the exam, because skin that folds over the waistband in that position usually won’t tighten after liposuction alone.
Arms
Arm results in lipo before and after arms photos look strongest in people with fullness at the back of the upper arm and little hanging skin.
Upper arms are on Mayo Clinic’s and Cleveland Clinic’s lists of treatable areas. When skin hangs, ASPS describes an arm lift, which removes skin through a longer incision along the inner arm. ASPS put the 2024 US surgeon fee at about $6,000 to $10,500 for an arm lift, compared with $4,300 to $7,500 for liposuction.
Thighs
In lipo before and after thighs photos, you’ll usually see smoother outer thighs, while inner thighs depend heavily on skin quality.
Outer thighs (“saddlebags”) hold firmer skin and often respond well. Inner-thigh skin is thinner, so removing too much fat can leave looseness or rippling; ASPS lists rippling, loose skin and asymmetry among liposuction risks. Thigh liposuction doesn’t treat cellulite, according to Mayo Clinic. For significant laxity after weight loss, a thigh lift is an option; see body contouring after weight loss.
Chin
Chin results in lipo before and after chin photos sharpen the jaw-to-neck angle in people with fat under the chin and good skin tone.
Chin and neck also appear on Mayo Clinic’s list of liposuction areas. ASPS reported a 2024 US surgeon fee range of $3,000 to $5,500 for liposuction under the chin. Loose neck skin or visible bands usually need a neck lift, which may include liposuction through a small under-chin incision; see our neck lift overview.
Frequently Asked Questions
FAQ
Answers on which area gives the most visible change, loose skin, cellulite, timing and whether fat returns.
Which area shows the biggest liposuction change?
Usually the abdomen and flanks, where fat deposits are larger. The result depends more on skin quality than area: firm, elastic skin shrinks well, while loose skin may need a tummy tuck, arm lift or thigh lift.
Will liposuction tighten loose stomach skin?
Not much. Mayo Clinic says thin, inelastic skin may look loose afterwards, and the NHS says liposuction doesn’t remove stretch marks. A tummy tuck removes skin and can repair separated muscles.
Does thigh liposuction get rid of cellulite?
No. Mayo Clinic says liposuction doesn’t treat cellulite dimpling, and ASPS lists worsening of cellulite as a possible risk. Thigh liposuction changes shape, not skin texture, so dimpling usually stays the same or can look more obvious.
How long until I see results on my arms or chin?
Small areas often show change within a few weeks, but swelling can take three to six months to resolve fully, according to Cleveland Clinic. Judge the final shape after that point, in the same pose and light.
