A mommy makeover non surgical plan can reduce small fat pockets and improve skin texture, but it can’t remove loose skin, repair separated stomach muscles or lift sagging breasts. Fat freezing, radiofrequency and muscle-stimulation devices give modest changes of a few centimetres over months. For a large post-pregnancy change, surgery remains the only option.
This guide is part of our mommy makeover overview, which explains the surgical options.
Options table
A non invasive mommy makeover combines devices and skin treatments, each aimed at one problem, with little downtime.
| Option | Can help with | Typical result | Downtime |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fat freezing (cryolipolysis) | Small, pinchable fat pockets | Up to 28% less fat in the area at 4 months | Little |
| Radiofrequency or focused ultrasound | Mild fat reduction, mild tightening | About 2 to 4 cm in small studies | Little |
| Muscle stimulation (HIFEM) | Muscle tone | Manufacturer-backed data only | None |
| Laser or microneedling | Stretch marks, skin texture | Gradual, partial | Days |
| Surgery (for comparison) | Loose skin, muscles, breasts | Large, lasting change | Weeks |
UCLA Health says fat freezing can reduce fat in a treated area by up to 28% at four months. A 2016 review found typical waist reductions of 2 to 4 cm with radiofrequency, ultrasound and similar devices, with little effect on weight. A 2019 review in the Australasian Journal of Dermatology said these devices don’t match liposuction but suit people who want to avoid surgery. The figures for HIFEM muscle devices come from a manufacturer-supported publication. The US average fee for non-invasive fat reduction was $1,157 per treatment in 2023, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS, US).
More detail on each device is in our non-invasive body contouring guide.
Limits
A mommy makeover with no surgery can’t fix the three most common post-pregnancy concerns: loose skin, separated muscles and sagging breasts.
- Loose skin: needs removal with a tummy tuck.
- Separated muscles (diastasis): a 2026 ASPS article notes this can be permanent despite exercise; only surgical repair closes a wide gap.
- Breast sagging: no device lifts the breast; a breast lift is surgical.
- Rare side effects: UCLA Health says fat freezing can rarely cause treated fat to grow (paradoxical adipose hyperplasia), estimated at 1 in 20,000 to 1 in 2,000.
- Home devices: the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) warned in 2025 that radiofrequency microneedling devices shouldn’t be used at home because of burns and scarring.
Timing matters too. Surgeons quoted by ASPS in 2026 say some treatments, such as light peels, microneedling and injectables, are used soon after birth, but nursing mothers should check with a surgeon first because many treatments haven’t been studied during breastfeeding. In my practice, I suggest trying devices only when a patient’s main concern is a small, pinchable bulge with good skin.
Frequently Asked Questions
FAQ
Answers on what devices can change, cost, breastfeeding and whether exercise can replace surgery after pregnancy.
Can I get a mommy makeover without surgery?
Partly. Devices can reduce small fat pockets and improve skin texture, but they can’t remove loose skin, repair separated muscles or lift breasts. For those, surgery is needed. Many people combine both over time.
How much does a non-surgical mommy makeover cost?
It depends on the number of sessions and areas. ASPS reported an average of $1,157 per non-invasive fat reduction treatment in 2023. Several sessions are often needed, so the total can approach the cost of a smaller surgery.
Can I have non-surgical treatments while breastfeeding?
Some may be possible, but check first. Surgeons quoted by ASPS say many treatments haven’t been studied in nursing mothers. Gentle skincare and facials are generally fine; ask a surgeon before devices or injectables.
Can exercise fix diastasis after pregnancy?
Exercise can strengthen the core, but a 2026 ASPS article says pregnancy changes such as diastasis can be permanent despite exercise. A wide gap usually needs surgical repair during a tummy tuck.
