Facial Plastic Surgery Before and After

Facial rejuvenation before and after results usually show a rested, refreshed version of the same face: smoother skin after laser, softer folds after filler, relaxed lines after toxin, and a firmer jaw and neck after a facelift. Timing matters. Filler results settle within two weeks, laser in about three months, and surgery over several months as swelling fades.

Results by procedure

Each treatment changes a different layer, so judge results at the right time and against what that procedure can realistically do.

Procedure Typical change When to judge How long it lasts
Toxin Softer frown, forehead and crow’s feet lines About 2 weeks About 3 to 4 months
Hyaluronic acid filler Softer folds, restored volume About 2 weeks About 9 months to 1 year (nasolabial study)
Laser resurfacing Smoother skin, fewer fine lines and spots 2 to 3 months, as pinkness fades Long-lasting with sun care
Eyelid surgery Less hooding or puffiness Several months, as scars fade Years
Facelift and neck lift Firmer jawline and neck Several months Years

Surgery

The American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS, US) says facelift patients usually look presentable in about 10 to 14 days and feel normal in two to three months. A 2012 study of 50 facelift patients followed for an average of 5.5 years found about 76% still looked younger than before surgery. Jowl improvement fell by about 20%, while the neck lost the most improvement and nasolabial folds changed little. For the lower face, see our facelift overview.

Injections and laser

In the main study of one hyaluronic acid filler for nasolabial folds, 88% of patients kept their improvement at 24 weeks. Toxin effects in Botox Cosmetic trials for frown lines faded over three to four months. ASPS notes laser-treated skin stays pink for two to three months and sometimes up to a year. Our laser, IPL and PRP guide compares the light-based options.

Reading photos

Facial plastic surgery before and after photos are only useful when lighting, angle, expression and timing match between the two images.

Check Trustworthy photo Warning sign
Lighting Same, even front light Brighter or softer “after” light
Angle and expression Same head position, neutral face Chin lifted or smiling in “after”
Makeup and hair None or identical Makeup only in “after”
Timing Date stated, months after surgery No date, or same-day swelling
Variety Several patients like you One standout case only

Facial plastic surgery before after galleries should come from the surgeon’s own patients, with consent. Ask to see results one or more years later, not just the first months. In my practice, I photograph patients with the same camera, distance and lighting at every visit, because even a small change in light can make skin look years younger.

Men’s results often look different because surgeons aim to keep a strong jaw and avoid a tight look; see male facial rejuvenation.

Frequently Asked Questions

FAQ

Answers on plastic surgery facial before and after timing, how long results last and why some results look unnatural.

When will I see my plastic surgery facial before and after result?

It depends on the procedure. Toxin and filler settle in about two weeks. Laser skin needs two to three months for pinkness to fade. After a facelift, most people look presentable in 10 to 14 days, with refinement over several months.

How long do facial rejuvenation results last?

Toxin lasts about three to four months and hyaluronic acid filler roughly nine months to a year in nasolabial studies. A facelift lasts years; one study found about 76% of patients still looked younger after 5.5 years. Aging continues after every treatment.

Why do some results look unnatural?

Usually because of too much product, too much skin tension, or treating one area while ignoring others. A tight-looking face or puffy cheeks often come from overcorrection. Balanced, layered treatment tends to look more natural than one large change.

Are online before and after photos reliable?

Only partly. Lighting, angle, makeup and editing can change how a face looks. Choose photos from a surgeon’s own patients with matching conditions and stated dates, and ask to see several people with features like yours.
